UC Irvine Progress

UC Irvine has already made great strides by implementing the following sustainable practices:

      - trayless dining in residential dining halls
      - an organic salad bar in Mesa Commons
      - elimination of polystyrene foam (Styrofoam) in residential & retail locations
      - fair trade coffee offered at Starbucks and the Cyber A Café
      - organic eggs at all dining locations
      - reusable tableware at residential dining locations
      - unbleached napkins at all residential and most retail locations
      - fair trade and organic products offered at Zot ‘n Go
      - educational events about waste reduction
      - vegetarian and vegan options at all dining locations
      - donation of leftover pastries to Feeding America (formerly known as America's Second Harvest)
      - recycling at all dining locations

UC Irvine Dining & Hospitality and ARAMARK Higher Education

The University of California, Irvine Dining & Hospitality contracts with ARAMARK in Higher Education.  As of 2009, ARAMARK is committing to the following by 2010:

      - Implementing an Energy and Water Conservation program at every partner campus;
      - Purchasing only paper products made with recycled content;
      - Utilizing daily green cleaning products at all locations;
      - Diverting 100 percent of fryer oil waste; 
      - Increasing the level of sustainable food offerings served by at least 5 percent per year.
